WHAT ARE SNAP BUTTONS?

Snap buttons are a type of button made of two round metal pieces, one with a groove and another with a head shaped to fit into that groove. As the name suggests, they are fastened by pressure.

To add this type of button to a garment, you need to sew or rivet them onto the opposite sides of the clothing you want to close. To ensure that the button head correctly fits into the groove and doesn't come out unless force is applied, a piece of lateral resistance is often added.

The first pressure buttons appeared at the end of the 19th century. They were initially used to fasten men's underwear, but soon after were introduced to women's clothing.
