WHAT IS A CAP
The cap, also known as a cachucha in some Spanish-speaking countries, is a head accessory designed to cover it and protect it from sunlight. Caps include a visor to protect the eyes and a back piece to adjust them to the user's skull size. It is often used as a mere decorative accessory.
Humans have been using accessories to cover our heads for millennia. However, the specific origin of caps as we know them today dates back to the second half of the 19th century, with the birth of baseball.
Caps are an indispensable accessory in this sport. The visor effectively blocks sunlight, allowing to bat and throw the ball with accuracy. In addition, the crown (the curved fabric that fits the shape of the skull) fits tightly to the head so that you can run with the cap on without it flying off.
At first, wearing a cap outside of a sports context was frowned upon, but the popularization of baseball allowed the expansion of this complement as one more of everyday life.
WHAT IS A BERET
A beret is a warm headwear garment. Berets are designed to cover it leaving a small space between the scalp and the fabric of about 2 centimeters. It is cinched with an adorned edge or a semi-rigid band. Some variations include a decorative tassel in the center.
This accessory has been widely used among the working classes in some European countries, especially in Spain, France, and the United Kingdom (in the latter case, it is part of the typical costume of the Scottish Highlands). It is also very common in military dress in many countries.
There are several types of berets depending on the country of origin. The best known are the English beret, also known as Flat Cap, the Irish beret or Hattera beret, the Spanish beret and the French beret.
