FOSSHAPE ® is a type of thermoplastic, a unique fabric that once heated becomes rigid and structured, so you can create a firm base for a hat, piece of clothing, textile sculpture, etc.
Some of the benefits of FOSSHAPE ®:
It does not fray, it is extremely light, porous and breathable after stiffening. It is resistant to mold and water damage.
FOSSHAPE ® can be molded using dry or wet heat. It has to be heated to around 200º F (or 90º C). The use of steam is recommended although you can also use an industrial hot air gun.
When you begin to heat the fabric, bring the heat source slowly towards the fabric and use an undulating movement to heat the entire area slowly and evenly. This will prevent the fabric from heating up too quickly and reducing unevenly.
After activation, FOSSHAPE ® can be reduced by up to 30%. The 600 variety is 6.5 mm thick, it is the thickest variety and it creates a much stiffer, stronger, but less flexible base.
We offer FOSSHAPE 300 AND FOSSHAPE 600.
In the headgear, FOSSHAPE ® is a superbly effective blocking material, used as a substitute for BUCKRAM. It is superior to BUCKRAM for many reasons, since it does not require another chemical for treatment or stiffening. FOSSHAPE ® only requires heat to block and harden, being able to acquire any shape. It is also much more durable and resistant to water.
FOSSHAPE ® is ideal for:
Create a strong but breathable structure for a hat.
Sculptural work - FOSSHAPE ® can be molded in any way you want. A firm structure will be carried out, but it remains flexible.
It can be easily stitched to any other material as support.
This contemporary material is fabulous and is revolutionizing the way that hatters and dressmakers make their creations. It is also very popular in costume design, sculpture and cosplay.
