Description

How do you use the colour wheel?

The primary colours on the wheel are yellow, red and blue. All the other colours can be created from these three shades. Between each pair of primary colours are the secondary colours, obtained by mixing them. Tertiary colours are mixed from primary and secondary shades.

Choose a colour, then look at which colour sits directly opposite it on the colour wheel. Those two are complementary colours. Complementary colours contrast strongly with each other, so when used together in a design, both colours look bold and eye-catching.
